Week 27: Marriages and a Spouse Missing in Action
As we remember our veterans
this Memorial Day weekend, we ask you to do triple duty in prayer this coming
week. First, we ask you join us in
thanking God for those who have made the supreme sacrifice while standing in
the gap in our defense. Second, we
ask you to pray for those husbands and wives who have lost their spouses as
they defended our country and fought for those who needed our help in times of
oppression.
Third, we ask you to pray
for an often forgotten part of the military family, those husbands and wives
whose spouses are still missing in action. While it is practically impossible to determine how many
there are, some number of MIAs are still separated from their families. The spouses they have left behind live
with the constant stress of not knowing if their loved one is dead or
alive. As time goes by, just
maintaining hope is a daily challenge.
Yet giving up hope can seem like a betrayal. Often these spouses are frustrated by a lack of information
and seemingly unresponsive officials who many times just have no new
information to provide. Finally,
the spouses of MIAs can be overwhelmed by practical and legal issues because of
the uncertainties of their position.
Please pray that the spouses
of MIAs will
- Trust the Lord who loves them best
- Not beat themselves up emotionally when they lose hope from time to time
- Be comforted by the precious memories of their missing spouse
- Be surrounded by supportive friends and family
- Refrain from demonizing officials who would love to give them answers but just don’t have any to give
- Not be overcome by the logistical and legal challenges that can beset the spouses of MIAs
